Review of the previous FDF.

January 17-19, 2014 - Hosted in Annapolis, MD

Annapolis, MD - The Metropolis of New Jersey Folk Dance Festival 2014 took place January 17th-19th and was a great success with over 500 youth, young adults, parents and clergy from around the Metropolis and beyond! Dance troupes started arriving Friday evening from as far away as Port Jefferson, NY and Norfolk, VA in order to participate in the festivities. The Annual Folk Dance Festival is blessed by His Eminence Metropolitan EVANGELOS and serves to promote Hellenism and Orthodoxy to the youth dancers. Reverend Father Kosmas Karavellas, Founder of the Metropolis of New Jersey Folk Dance Festival and Vicar General of the Metropolis of New Jersey has given his heart to this cultural event from its earliest stages over twenty years ago. Father Kosmas expressed his genuine joy at seeing such a vibrant and active ministry in the Metropolis. A special guest was also present and Father Kosmas introduced the youngest mayor to ever hold the post in the historic city of Annapolis, Mayor Michael Pantelides. Following the introductions, it didn't take long for the dancers to hit the stage.

This year’s performances included numerous regions from around Greece and Asia Minor. The costumes worn by the dancers reflected the regional dances and were an inspiration to all those present.

FDF 2014 Coordinator Felicia Karavellas works year round in order to ensure a successful event. Felicia, along with many dedicated clergy and volunteers from Saints Constantine and Helen and elsewhere, are planning an even greater FDF 2015. “It has been an amazing weekend with amazing dancing.” Felicia concluded, “Congratulations to everyone on a great weekend filled with fellowship and fun! See you all at next year’s Metropolis of New Jersey’s FDF 2015!”

Mark your calendars and prepare for the Metropolis of New Jersey 2015 FDF to be held in Annapolis, MD January 16th, 17th & 18th! Registration information to follow...
